It was a political gathering that blended celebration with high drama as residents of Ajeromi-Ifelodun Constituency II, cutting across ethnic and political lines, converged in a rare show of unity to endorse their representative at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Sabur Akanbi Oluwa, for a second term.
From Yoruba to Igbo, Arewa and South-South communities, the venue transformed into a melting pot of solidarity, as stakeholders, party leaders, traditional rulers and grassroots supporters declared what many described as a “collective decision” on the political future of the constituency.
Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Oluwa laid out his vision of an inclusive, secure and economically vibrant constituency. He reiterated his commitment to leveraging his legislative office to attract government presence and development projects.
“We are working towards making Ajeromi-Ifelodun Constituency II an ideal place to live, where security is assured and opportunities are accessible to all,” he said.

Highlighting tangible achievements, the lawmaker pointed to the establishment of a vocational centre at Tolu School Complex, designed to equip youths with practical skills for self-reliance. He also clarified the scope of legislative influence, noting that constituency development largely depends on drawing government attention to local needs.
“There are no direct constituency funds. What we do is engage commissioners and the governor to bring development to our people,” he explained.
The event drew a formidable political presence, including former and serving party executives such as Chief Samuel Adeyemi Adeyegboyega and the current APC Chairman in Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Ibrahim Adio, alongside councillors, supervisors and LGA executives. Traditional rulers, including the Baale of Ajegunle, Bale Adeyemo leading other traditional rulers, also lent royal backing to the gathering.
Ethnic leaders were not left out. Nkem Igwe, apex leader of the Igbo community was also present, while Arewa and South-South leaders spoke glowingly of the lawmaker’s inclusiveness and accessibility.
The defining moment came when former lawmaker Hon Sina Ogunkoya took the stage. In a voice that commanded attention, he described Hon Sabur Oluwa as “energetic and impactful,” declaring that his performance was evident across the constituency.
“Based on what we have seen, I move that he be given another term,” Ogunkoya said, drawing loud applause.
The motion was swiftly seconded by another former lawmaker, Hon Abdulbaqi Oladimeji Balogun, sealing what appeared to be a pre-consensus endorsement.
Backing the lawmakers’ position, the Ajeromi-Ifelodun Council Chairman, Olamilekan Akindipe, popularly known as “Lamp Holder,” assured that the party structure would deliver overwhelming votes for the APC in the forthcoming election and therefore supports the motion moved by the former lawmakers.
“This is not new. We did it before, and we will do it again. The party will deliver,” he said confidently.

The endorsement gained further traction as party chairman Ibrahim Adio formally aligned with the position, affirming the APC’s support for Oluwa’s second-term bid.
Other notable figures present included The APC Apex leader ,GAC member Prince Rabiu Adio Oluwa and Yeye Iretiola Oluwa, Hon Luqman Sa’ad Olumoh,the Constituency I Lawmaker, former Ajeromi Ifelodun Council Chairman Kamaldeen Bayewu, and former Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Kolawole Musbau Taiwo, underscoring the weight of political backing at the event.
Goodwill messages poured in from across groups. Chief Adeyemi praised Oluwa’s loyalty and performance, while South-South representatives pledged “150 percent support.” Arewa leader Alhaji Ibrahim Auna Tanko commended Hon Sabur’s reliability, noting his outreach to northern communities. The Igbo bloc, represented by Chief Casmir Uche Amagba, declared total alignment with his candidacy.
In his formal declaration, Oluwa confirmed his intention to seek re-election in the 2027 polls, emphasizing continuity and expanded development.
“As Chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Mineral Resources, I have supported initiatives to improve energy access and sustainability. But beyond that, I remain committed to grassroots engagement and responsive representation,” he said.
Among his legislative milestones is his role in shaping the Lagos State Electricity Law, signed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, aimed at transforming power distribution and access across the state.
On infrastructure, Oluwa highlighted ongoing solar streetlight installations across key areas, including Aiyeke Bridge, Amore Street, Kirikiri Road, Tolu Road, and Wilmer Crescent, projects credited with boosting security and night-time economic activities.
Among other signature interventions attributed to Sabur Akanbi Oluwa are the facilitation of a fire station at the Tolu Complex and the development of the Tolu School Sports Complex.
His constituency outreach also includes a broad range of social and economic support programmes, notably youth empowerment initiatives and direct cash assistance to over 2,000 vulnerable households, including senior citizens.
In the area of infrastructure, the lawmaker has driven projects focused on road rehabilitation, drainage construction, and the development of water channels aimed at addressing flooding and improving accessibility within the constituency.
On education, his interventions feature scholarship awards and sustained support programmes such as the annual distribution of JAMB and GCE forms, alongside the provision of free coaching classes for students. He has also facilitated the distribution of solar-powered study lamps to enhance learning conditions for pupils and students.
As the event drew to a close, what remained unmistakable was the atmosphere of consensus. For many attendees, the endorsement was not just political,it was symbolic of unity across diverse communities, setting the stage for what could be a defining electoral contest in 2027.
