The Chairman of Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area, Olamilekan Akindipe, popularly known as “Lampholder,” has reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to combat crime and ensure a secure environment for residents.
Akindipe made this known during the endorsement ceremony of Sabur Akanbi Oluwa, where he highlighted ongoing security efforts across the council area. He disclosed that a recent crackdown on criminal activities around Gidan Grammar was the result of a coordinated operation involving Apapa, Apapa Iganmu, and Ajeromi-Ifelodun local governments.
According to him, the operation successfully dislodged suspected criminal elements from the area, although some relocated into parts of Ajeromi-Ifelodun. He assured residents that the council has remained vigilant and unwavering in preventing such elements from gaining a foothold.
“Following intelligence reports, we recently discovered their movement into Grazellia at Boundary. We acted swiftly by shutting down the location and deploying a joint security team comprising the Police, Army, Navy, and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. The area is now under constant surveillance,” he said.
The chairman noted that the council has intensified its security architecture through continuous strategic meetings and intelligence gathering, stressing that authorities are determined not to be caught unprepared.
“We have had sleepless nights monitoring these developments. The moment we receive credible intelligence on their movements, we take immediate and proactive action,” he added.
Akindipe also appealed to residents to support the council’s efforts by providing timely and useful information that could aid security operations. “Security is a collective responsibility. We urge residents to speak up whenever they notice suspicious activities. We are ready to act decisively,” he said.
Addressing another pressing concern, the chairman decried the activities of truck drivers in the Coconut axis, describing the situation as disruptive to traffic and public order. He revealed that the council is engaging terminal operators in the area to find lasting solutions.
“We are initiating discussions with terminal operators to ensure that trucks do not park indiscriminately on our roads after exiting the ports. This effort is being coordinated with the Apapa Local Government Area to guarantee free flow of traffic along that corridor,” he stated.
He reiterated the administration’s commitment to maintaining law and order while improving the overall livability of Ajeromi-Ifelodun for all residents.
