A massive show of political solidarity and grassroots support took place recently in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Constituency 01 as party faithful, community groups, market associations, religious bodies, and supporters gathered to endorse the return of Hon. Luqman Sa’ad Olumoh for another term in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The atmosphere at the venue resembled a political carnival as thousands of supporters stormed the rally ground with banners, songs, and coordinated dances in support of the lawmaker widely known as “KOKO.” The gathering featured entertaining Fuji music performances, with different support groups dancing and chanting slogans calling for the continuity of Hon. Olumoh’s representation.
Among the groups present were Councilors and Ifelodun Supervisors, the National Council for Women Society (NCWS), Christian Association representatives, the League of Imams, Farmers Association, ASGAT Alulamu Support Group for Ahmed Tinubu, Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), Community Development Committees (CDC), Community Development Associations (CDA), Super Women, Iyalode groups, and the influential G17 political bloc.
Several chants from supporters echoed across the venue, including the popular slogan: “Kosi Olumoh, Kosi Assembly,” signifying the crowd’s insistence on his return.
The arrival of Hon. Olumoh at the rally electrified the atmosphere as supporters erupted into cheers while music intensified across the arena. Addressing the mammoth crowd, the lawmaker declared that his supporters were committed to mobilising massive votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the forthcoming elections.
“We are working hard to shore up votes for Asiwaju, our leader, and if what we are seeing here today is anything to go by, then our people are ready to return our President and me for a second term,” he stated.
One of the beneficiaries of the Hon. Lukman Sa’ad Olumoh Employment Initiative, Lawal Ademola-Igi Aba, who spoke extensively at the event, praised the lawmaker for numerous developmental projects and empowerment programmes facilitated across Ajeromi-Ifelodun Constituency 01.
According to him, Hon. Olumoh has consistently demonstrated commitment to youth empowerment, employment opportunities, infrastructural development, educational support, and community welfare interventions.
Lawal noted that many youths and families within the constituency have benefited directly from the lawmaker’s initiatives and described his leadership style as visionary and people-oriented.
He urged residents, party members, and supporters to remain steadfast in their support for Hon. Olumoh, stating that the constituency was already witnessing meaningful development under his representation.
Former Chairman of Ifelodun Local Council Development Area and G17 leader, Taiwo Adenekan, described Hon. Olumoh as a lawmaker with proven legislative capacity. While addressing the crowd, he asked whether the lawmaker deserved another tenure, a question that was met with a thunderous “Yes” from supporters.
The same overwhelming response greeted his endorsement of Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat for the Governorship of Lagos and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term.
Adenekan stated that Deputy Governor Hamzat had served diligently and deserved continued support. He also commended President Tinubu, saying Nigeria’s image and dignity among nations had improved under his leadership.
“Today, in the comity of nations, I am proud to say I am a Nigerian. The dignity of our nation has been restored, and the backlog of the misdeeds of past governments is being corrected by Asiwaju,” he said.
He explained that the political process would move through stages, beginning with declarations and later primary elections, while urging party members to avoid hostility and support their preferred candidates peacefully.
A minute silence was later observed in honour of late G17 member and the first Executive Chairman of Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government, Dr. Ajijola Abiola.
Among dignitaries present at the event were the Managing Director of Lagos Ferry Services, Alhaji Abdulbaqi Oladimeji Balogun, leaders of the Arewa community in Lagos led by Alhaji Saidu Yusuf Brumaih, representatives of South-South ethnic groups, and several APC stakeholders, all of whom openly adopted Hon. Olumoh as their preferred candidate.
The immediate past Head of Service in Lagos State and former Chairman of Ajeromi Local Government, Hon. Kamal Bayewu, appealed to constituents to support the continuation of Hon. Olumoh’s tenure, noting that the lawmaker had “entered the settings” at the Lagos State House of Assembly and was already making significant impact.
“If the Lord has given us one who is performing, we should allow him to continue,” Bayewu said.
An APC Apex Leader and member of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Prince Rabiu Adio Oluwa, while reacting to the crowd and activities at the venue, stated that the people of Ifelodun had clearly shown the political direction they intended to follow.
“By what we are seeing here today, the people are going with Olumoh,” he declared.
Former lawmaker, Hon. Kolawole Taiwo, also pledged his support for Hon. Olumoh, saying he would not repeat the political mistakes of the past when leaders failed to support emerging lawmakers.
“As Olumoh has entered the line, we must give him every support necessary,” Taiwo stated.
Chairman of Ifelodun LCDA, Mayor Dr. Olufemi Okeowo, recalled how Hon. Kolawole Taiwo facilitated his movement from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Progressives Group (ACN).
He described the declaration rally as one comparable to a presidential campaign gathering and said the relationship and unity displayed at the event gladdened his heart.
“Luqman is my brother, and he has been kind and understanding. I have not seen an Assembly member boldly execute projects like this, and based on these performances, our prayer is that he continues,” Okeowo said.
