The leadership of the HKT Political Group has dismissed widespread rumours suggesting that the group is facing internal divisions or disintegration.
Rising from the group’s Apex meeting held yesterday, both the group’s Chairman, Mr. Ezekiel Taiwo, and its Standard Bearer and Mandate Leader, Hon. Kolawole Taiwo, described the speculations as baseless and the handiwork of detractors.
In his remarks, the Chairman, Mr. Ezekiel Taiwo, reaffirmed the unity and stability of the group, noting that minor disagreements among members are normal in any political organization.
“You can see that our Apex meeting was well attended. In political groups like ours, disagreements may occur, but they never reach a level that could threaten our unity,” Taiwo said. “Such matters are family issues that are always resolved internally.”
Addressing reports that some members felt marginalized over the recent supervisory appointment, Taiwo explained that the single slot allocated to the group at the local government was insufficient to satisfy every member’s expectations.
“When only one slot is given to a group as large as ours, naturally not everyone will be pleased. But those complaining know that such allocations are limited, and other groups face similar situations,” he explained.
“Next time, I may allow the general house to decide who gets such appointments themselves, although that might create even more problems,” he added with a smile.
Taiwo also disclosed that the group had previously received more than one slot, and the recent development came as an unexpected setback. Despite feeling disappointed, he said he decided to return the appointment slot to Maiyegun, whom he described as a loyal and supportive member of the group.
Speaking further, Hon. Kolawole Taiwo (HKT), the group’s Standard Bearer and Mandate Leader, emphasized that the meeting focused largely on preparations for the group’s annual end-of-year celebration always done on December 24. He, however, used the occasion to address the ongoing rumours of discord.
“Anyone causing unnecessary tension within the group is only doing so for personal reasons,” he said. “The HKT group has no conflict with any political group or individual in Ajeromi-Ifelodun. We remain united and stronger than ever.”
Hon. Taiwo also reiterated the strength and influence of the HKT group within Ajeromi-Ifelodun, saying,
“There is no political group in Ajeromi-Ifelodun as formidable as HKT. Our strength is in our spread, and we intend to sustain it,so we cannot share slots given us to only one zone.”
He further clarified that the supervisory slot was not meant to be a personal benefit but a responsibility requiring active contribution to the group’s upcoming development.
“These positions are not for anyone to appropriate to their family. I’m not fully in government again; my role is more administrative as Board Chairman, chairing board meetings or performing oversight functions. Therefore, we must ensure that such appointments go to people who can also add value,” he explained.
Hon. Taiwo concluded by expressing concern over growing political agitation, hinting that he had considered stepping back from active politics due to mounting pressures.
“Sometimes I feel like stepping aside from politics because of all these unnecessary tensions. My People are telling me to rest politics, but I’ve continued to do my best for everyone,” he said.
“Imagine, the Leader of the House is already from Ward F in our zone, yet some people still want a Supervisory slot from the same ward, even when our political structure spans the entire local government.”
The HKT group, according to both leaders, remains united, focused, and committed to promoting inclusive governance and continued grassroots development in Ajeromi-Ifelodun.
