Mayor Dr. Olufemi Akanbi Okeowo, Chairman of Ifelodun Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has been honoured as the “Man of the Year” in Ajeromi-Ifelodun by the Asiwaju Mega Initiative (AMI) in recognition of his commitment to grassroots development, impactful leadership and good governance.
The award was presented by a delegation of the group led by its National Coordinator, Hon. Bola Olabisi.
Speaking during the presentation of the award, Olabisi stated that Okeowo’s leadership style reflects the political ideology and developmental principles associated with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to him, the council chairman has demonstrated dedication to the delivery of democratic dividends to the people, while also sustaining programmes aimed at improving the welfare of residents within the local council.
“We are here today to present this award to the Council Chairman, Hon. Okeowo, as the Man of the Year in Ajeromi-Ifelodun because of the good work he has been doing and his commitment to the ideals of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.
Mayor Dr Olufemi Akanbi Okeowo, in his response, expressed appreciation to the group for honouring him with the award, describing the gesture as a motivation to do more in public service.
Okeowo also commended Bola Ahmed Tinubu and prayed for the continued success of his administration, applauding what he described as the President’s developmental strides and ongoing reforms across the country. He expressed confidence that Tinubu would realise his vision and fulfill his promises towards Nigeria’s growth and national development.
Olabisi noted that AMI focuses on promoting the ideology of Tinubu among young people, particularly students across Lagos State, through educational and developmental initiatives.
He explained that the organisation engages youths through programmes designed to encourage leadership, discipline, creativity, and self-development.
“Our focus is on promoting good character and discovering hidden talents among youths, especially in schools. We organise mathematics competitions, essay presentations, art exhibitions, talent hunts, games competitions, skill acquisition programmes, and beauty pageants to positively engage young people,” he added.
He further stated that the initiative aims to inspire younger generations to emulate what he described as the leadership qualities and achievements of President Tinubu.
The AMI National Coordinator, who also identified himself as the Majority Leader of Agbado-Oke LCDA, described the award as a recognition of Okeowo’s contributions to community development and his alignment with progressive governance in Lagos State.
AMI is a Lagos-based socio-political group focused on youth empowerment, talent development, and civic engagement across the state.
