Diriwari Challenges APC Candidates to Debate, Says Ajeromi-Ifelodun Deserves Better Representation

PDP candidate demands accountability, unveils 2027 election committee and campaign structure

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency in the 2027 House of Representatives election, Hon. Dr. Oladipupo Wilson Diriwari, has challenged the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the constituency to an open debate on their records in office and contributions to the development of the people.

Diriwari, a legal practitioner, made the call while addressing party supporters and stakeholders in Ajeromi-Ifelodun, where he criticised what he described as the failure of the incumbent representatives to deliver adequate dividends of democracy to constituents.

He urged voters to scrutinise the records of serving representatives and exercise their franchise based on what they consider to be their performance in office.

Diriwari specifically challenged the APC candidate for the House of Representatives seat, Hon. Adeboye Kalejaiye Paul, who is the incumbent representative of Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency, to publicly account for his stewardship.

According to Diriwari, Kalejaiye had previously occupied government positions, including service as a Special Adviser to two Lagos State governors, and later served as head of the Lagos State Ferry Services.

Diriwari alleged that despite those opportunities, the constituency had not received what he considered sufficient benefits in terms of employment opportunities and development.

He said: “The APC candidate has been in government, once as a Special Adviser to two Lagos governors, but he has not brought any dividends of democracy to the people in the local government.

“He was also given the opportunity to serve as the boss at Lagos Ferry Services in Lagos State and yet none of the people received employment. When he served as Special Adviser to the governors, neither did he contribute to the development of this constituency.”

Diriwari further argued that Kalejaiye’s subsequent election to the House of Representatives had provided another opportunity to serve the constituency, but claimed that the people were yet to see sufficient results.

He therefore called for a public debate involving the APC candidates, saying such an engagement would give voters an opportunity to hear directly from the candidates about their records, achievements, plans and priorities.

“Let them tell the people what they have done for them in the four years of representing them,” he said.

The PDP candidate also raised concerns about infrastructure and socio-economic conditions in Ajegunle, citing roads, water, electricity and employment among issues he said remained pressing challenges for residents.

“Now looking at Ajegunle, no good roads, no water, no light and no employment for the masses. They have done us more harm than good in their representation and that is the reason they should be voted out of the office they are representing us,” he said.

Diriwari also drew attention to unemployment among young graduates, saying many residents who had completed university education were still without jobs.

“Our children who had gone through the four walls of the university have no jobs and this is a serious thing. The only way we can do it is to call on the masses; let them come out en masse and vote,” he added.

His comments form part of the PDP’s emerging campaign narrative ahead of the 2027 general election, with the party seeking to present itself as an alternative to the incumbent political structure in the constituency.

Diriwari was adopted by the Ajeromi-Ifelodun PDP as its consensus candidate earlier in 2026.

PDP unveils 2027 election committee

At the gathering, the Ajeromi-Ifelodun PDP Chairman, Alhaji Kabiru Adewale Adebiyi, unveiled the party’s election committee for the 2027 general election.

Adebiyi also declared that, contrary to claims by political detractors that the PDP was no longer politically relevant in Ajeromi-Ifelodun, the party was prepared for the 2027 contest and would seek to spring what he described as surprises in the federal constituency.

Election battle takes shape

The unveiling of the committee and campaign directorates marks another step in the PDP’s preparations for the 2027 contest in Ajeromi-Ifelodun, where Diriwari is positioning himself as a challenger to the incumbent APC representative.

INEC has scheduled the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections for February 20, 2027, with the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections scheduled for March 6, 2027.

With the PDP now unveiling its campaign machinery, the political contest in Ajeromi-Ifelodun is expected to increasingly focus on the records of the candidates, constituency development, employment, infrastructure, representation and the competing plans being offered to voters ahead of the election.
