A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Area, Aare Yunus O.S. Animashaun, has explained his decision to seek the chairmanship of the party at the Local Government Area level, citing experience, energy, and deep-rooted commitment to the party’s growth.
Speaking with party stakeholders, Animashaun dismissed claims that he is new to the APC, describing such assertions as inaccurate. He said he is a foundation member of the party and participated in the APC national convention and inauguration held in Benin City.
“I am not new to the APC. I was there from the beginning and played an active role in the formative years of the party,” he said.
Animashaun said his aspiration is driven by his belief that the APC in Ajeromi Ifelodun requires strong, experienced, and inclusive leadership to regain momentum at the grassroots. He noted that his background in party organisation, electioneering, political mobilisation, and inter-cadre engagement places him in a unique position to effectively lead the party.
According to him, the position of local government party chairman should not be treated lightly, stressing that it requires a person of influence who can command respect across party leadership structures and among grassroots members.
“The party chairmanship is not for just anyone. It requires a dedicated, strong-minded politician who can engage the crowd, speak for party members, agitate for their interests, and stand firm against opposition pressure,” he said.
Animashaun described the party chairman as a father figure to members, particularly women and youths who have remained loyal over the years. He pledged to prioritise the welfare and inclusion of long-standing party supporters if elected.
“I want to ensure that the women and youths who have stood by our party over the years feel the impact of the party at the local government level. These are people who sacrifice their time and resources for the APC, and they deserve recognition and support,” he added.
Recalling his political antecedents, Animashaun said he played a key role during the 2010 struggle for the re-election of former Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola. He said he was a member of the Continuity Team (TCT) led by Barrister Dapo Durotimi-Etti and coordinated party activities in Ajeromi Ifelodun, while also serving as chairman of coordinators across Badagry, Ojo, and Amuwo areas.
He also referenced a period in the party’s history when APC activities in the local government were vibrant, attributing it to leadership that was accessible and able to inspire enthusiasm among members.
Animashaun expressed confidence that his leadership would reinvigorate the party, strengthen internal cohesion, and restore enthusiasm among members.
“I sincerely want to serve my party men and women. The APC needs a chairman with natural energy, zeal, and the capacity to reignite party spirit, and I am ready to offer that leadership,” he said.
