The Nathaniel Idowu Foundation, in partnership with Peakline Sports World Limited, has unveiled an ambitious lineup of four youth football development programmes scheduled to commence later this year at the New Maracana Sports Complex, Ajegunle, as part of efforts to discover emerging talents, promote education, and empower young people through sports.
The initiatives, expected to run before the end of 2026, are designed to provide structured football development opportunities for children and teenagers across Lagos State while promoting discipline, healthy living, leadership, and academic excellence.
The latest programmes build on the success of the Let Her Play Project and the Nathaniel Idowu–Ajegunle Under-14 Football League, both held in February 2026, which provided hundreds of young boys and girls with their first experience of organised football through professional coaching, player registration, identity cards, and media exposure.
Speaking on the forthcoming programmes, the organisers said the partnership is committed to expanding its reach to more schools and communities, creating sustainable pathways for young footballers to develop their talents.
Nathaniel Idowu Summer Camp 2026
The first programme, the Nathaniel Idowu Summer Camp 2026, will provide intensive football training during the school holiday. The camp will combine technical and tactical coaching with fitness sessions, life skills, educational support, and mentorship, ensuring participants receive holistic development both on and off the pitch.
Nathaniel Idowu Junior 7s 2026
Another major highlight is the Nathaniel Idowu Junior 7s 2026, a seven-a-side football competition for secondary schools across Lagos State.
Scheduled to run from September to December 2026, the tournament will feature between 24 and 32 schools competing in knockout qualifiers before the top 12 teams progress to an 11-week round-robin league played every Friday at the New Maracana Sports Complex.
With a prize pool exceeding ₦2.5 million and free registration for participating schools, organisers believe the competition will rank among the state’s leading school football tournaments.
Nathaniel Idowu Under-16 Football League
The partnership will also introduce the Nathaniel Idowu Under-16 Football League, aimed at bridging the developmental gap for players graduating from the Under-14 category.
The league will feature community teams and football academies across Lagos State, providing participants with professionally organised matches officiated by certified referees and supported by medical personnel, player statistics, and regular media coverage to enhance visibility.
Nathaniel Idowu Unity Cup
Rounding off the year’s activities will be the Nathaniel Idowu Unity Cup, a community football tournament designed to foster unity, peaceful coexistence, and cultural exchange through sports.
The competition will feature selected teams from different communities in Lagos and neighbouring countries competing for trophies, cash prizes, and community pride while celebrating diversity and youth engagement.
Commitment to Youth Development
According to the organisers, Peakline Sports World Limited will oversee the technical and operational aspects of the programmes, including fixtures, officiating, medical services, and media coverage, while the Nathaniel Idowu Foundation will provide funding, facilities, and strategic direction under its core pillars of Education, Health, and Sports.
They expressed confidence that the expanded initiatives would offer thousands of young people the opportunity to showcase their talents, develop life skills, and pursue brighter futures through football.
With four flagship programmes set to kick off later this year, the partnership hopes to strengthen grassroots football development while nurturing the next generation of athletes, leaders, and positive role models in Lagos and beyond.
