The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Chief Olabode George, Former Ajeromi Ifelodun Constituency Rep, and 22 other members over alleged anti-party activities and violations of the party’s constitution.
The decision was announced by the party’s Disciplinary Committee following its meeting held on May 26, 2026, where several petitions alleging anti-party conduct, unauthorized political engagements, and deliberate infractions of the PDP Constitution were reviewed.
In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee, Elder Kayode Ogunbiyi, and Secretary, Barrister Desmond Agbo, the committee said the action became necessary to preserve discipline, unity, and the integrity of the party.
According to the statement, the committee examined complaints against some leaders and members accused of engaging in activities capable of causing disaffection within the party, including alleged collaboration with rival political interests and actions considered detrimental to the PDP’s growth in Lagos State.
The committee also reviewed the status of Chief Bode George and reaffirmed that a previous disciplinary action taken against him by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) remains valid and binding.
Other members affected by the suspension include Chief (Mrs.) Aduke Maina, Dr. Abimbola Ogunkelu, Mr. Laja Adeoye, Capt. Tunji Shelle, Chief Sunday Olaifa, Mr. Gbenga Adegbesan, Hon. Rita Orji, Mrs. Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, Chief (Mrs.) Onikepo Oshodi, Mrs. Idera Sodipo, Prince Adedipe Dauda Ewenla, Hon. Bode Ogundipe, Hon. Aminu Suleiman, Dr. (Mrs.) Roli George, Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse, Mr. Adeyemi Moyegun, Chief Taiwo Kuye, Mrs. Coker, Hon. Setonji Koshoedo, Alhaji Muritala Ashorobi, Mr. Dare, Dr. Amos Alabi Fawole, Hon. Olumuyiwa Owodara Richard and Prof. O. Otubanjo.
The committee declared that all suspended members are prohibited from participating in PDP activities in Lagos State and can no longer represent the party in any official or unofficial capacity during the period of suspension.
It further warned that legal steps may be taken against any of the affected individuals should they continue to act in ways deemed contrary to the interests of the party.
“Our committee has recommended that strict legal procedures be instituted against any of the suspended persons who continue to act contrary to the interests of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State,” the statement added.
The development comes amid heightened political activities within the PDP ahead of its National Convention and Presidential Candidate Ratification Event scheduled for May 30 in Abuja.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Chief Bode George nor Hon. Rita Orji could be reached for their responses. Calls to George went unanswered, while Orji’s phone line was unreachable.
Responding promptly to this development, Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Chairman of PDP, Alhaji Kabiru Adewale Adebiyi, said the disciplinary measures could be extended to more members, suggesting that further sanctions may be imposed as investigations continue.
In a separate statement issued by a parallel arm of the party in Lagos, the State Publicity Secretary, Prince Christopher Odianarewo, condemned what it described as attempts to intimidate opposition voices and frustrate preparations for their convention.
They specifically alleged that threats were being directed at the proprietors of the Abuja venue selected for the convention and candidate ratification exercise. It insisted that all financial and procedural requirements for the use of the facility had been duly fulfilled and warned against any action capable of undermining democratic rights and political participation.
They reaffirmed support for the party’s national leadership under the Interim National Working Committee (INWC) led by Dr. Tanimu Turaki (SAN), stressing its commitment to rebuilding and strengthening the PDP as a credible alternative to the ruling administration.
The chapter also called on party faithful, civil society groups, and democratic stakeholders to remain vigilant and resist what it described as acts of political intimidation, insisting that the National Convention and Presidential Candidate Ratification Event would hold as scheduled in Abuja.
Meanwhile, the suspension of some of the state’s most prominent PDP figures is expected to generate fresh debate within the party, potentially setting the stage for further internal realignments as preparations for future electoral contests gather momentum.
