Goodnews, Hephzibah Sarah could be called a passionate unionist with her unique way. She is consummate in fostering good things in the Union.
Another value she has been encouraging colleagues to imbibe is to appreciate good leaders in their union and learn to celebrate them as well.
She also tasked the members to create a bond with these leaders, show them love, and wear their logos, as this can connect them to greater things.
She further advised the members to continue to celebrate their leaders so they too, would be celebrated when their time comes.
Sarah noted that she regards most of the leaders in MWUN as gurus because they know much about the laws governing ILO, ITF, Cabotage Law Enforcement, and the CBA law (Collective Bargaining Agreement).
Concerning the upcoming shipping election in one of the arms of MWUN, billed for Monday, June 16th, at the national secretariat of the union at Apapa, Sarah urged the concerned members to participate fully to elect credible leadership
Sarah said her activism is to revamp and project the image of MWUN, which her co-sailors term the Union to be.
Her words, “Before, Seamen are termed as liabilities among other branches of MWUN, but since Comrade Bunu came to Lagos and emerged as the President of Seamen with the collaboration of then District Chairman Comrade Avoseh, they both changed the system and now Seamen are number one in MWUN.
” With my experience, I have to let my colleagues know the worth and value of the union and the leaders. So, I had to create a platform Shipping Federation Youth Group”, she noted.
Sarah is also a special female representative in the women’s wing of the ITF at the Seamen District, a position she promised to use to the general good of the Union and Colleagues if encouraged.
Once a Sports woman, precisely a footballer and a potential coach, she praises great comrades like Oniha, Comrade Avoseh, and the PG Comrade Bunu, whom she commended.
She praised Comrade Bunu, the new PG of the union, for the good work they started on assumption of office and the former PG, Comrade Adeyanju, for a successful tenure.
Comrade Goodness promised to draw from the wealth of experience of the new PG, Bunu.
“Our incoming PG started his unionism as a member in the unit. Being a member, he demonstrated what we called LOVE and CHARITY amongst his colleagues through these. He became Unit Chairman, and his good work was also extended to the elders in his unit.
“Having served as a Unit Chairman, he became District Chairman and continued with his good works and philanthropy. He made love and charity a lifestyle, and this has mostly helped his continuous progress in the leadership of the Union.
“He progressed to become the Seaman branch President and the President. He later became the Seaman Deputy President General, before he was elected the incumbent President General”, she explained.
