Lagos Seafarers Branch of MWUN Union has declared their appreciation and full support for the re -elected president, Pastor Sunday Avoseh.
During a congratulatory visit to officially felicitate with him on the success of the election, the Seafarers giving him several uncountable ‘Gboosa-Gboosa ‘expressed their joy at the re-election of Avoseh because of his outstanding leadership qualities.
”We are happy to see that you have been re- elected because you were outstanding in your first tenure; even the out stations embraced your efforts so dearly.
“We congratulate you once again sir, as our own pride, we recognize your value, we really appreciate your works”.
The District organizing secretary Comrade Alao Olaitan who anchored the event said, there are lots of testimonies from different people as to how Comrade Avoseh touched their lives.
Comrade Hamed Animashaun has this to say, “Oga has severally helped me in different ways for a long time. He has rescued me from different unpalatable situations on this job..He treats all of us like a brother, father. I have immensely benefitted from his kindnesses.
Our Prayers is that God in His infinite mercy will not allow your legs step on any slippery ground.”
In his response, Pastor Avoseh appreciated heartedly the efforts of the comrades:
His words, “I appreciate all your efforts in cash and kind because I know some of you provided campaign materials and even cash. Some of you followed us and risked your lives and did everything to be in Portharcourt .
“I want to say a very big thank you to all of you and I want you to know that the mandate to serve has been given. I want to thank all Seafarers all over the federation from Lagos to Portharcourt, to Calabar, Warri to Ogoja. I ask for your continuous prayers and employ you not to be far from us because nobody is an island of knowledge”
He asked them to volunteer information that will give them the opportunity to fight as one team because it’s for the well-being of everyone.
“We may need to do the fight together because our commitment is to fight for the well-being of all of us. We will pursue that with all our strength to protect our noble profession.
The Seafarer’s boss further charged them not to allow their self-interest to override that of the system, as they need to sustain the interest in the system over self-interest.
Avoseh also reiterated the desire to prepare the youths that will take over from them, and it has to be youths who know what is happening in the system..
In her closing remark, the hyperactive Unionist, Special Female representative Sarah Goodnews said it is worthy of celebration that the pride of the youth, the Chief Officer of the branch, and a quintessential leader of the Seamen, is returning for another term to accomplish that which he has started.
She noted that one of his most outstanding achievements is the expansion of the districts from Private Boat to Seaman Districts, which had to be constituted in his regime, and that would be a source of pride for him.
“When Avoseh was a district chairman, he collaborated with Comrade Francis Abi Bunu to create Private Boat, and since the creation of that Private Boat District, it has not been constituted. Now, another district of Seamen is being created after he left for the branch, and it is yet to be constituted also in this, his second tenure. So, we expect him to put the two districts into consideration before he finishes his regime.
Sarah commended the President further. “Sir, you are an eye opener to so many of us seated here, and you are not just a leader, but a helper to lots of us and an escalator of the youths. Your help to so many Seamen is unquantifiable”.
“It is in this regard that we decided to reciprocate that love and appreciate your kindness. We pray that God will continue to lift you higher, more than you imagined”, she prayed.
A retired 78-year-old Seaman Philip Ezewei, glowingly spoke about Pastor Avoseh and how he had raised the seamen’s bar.
His words, “Avoseh’s strength is in his openness, kindness, and pro-activeness, and he has indeed contributed immensely to the development of the profession. He is hard-working and has a love for all comrades.”
He, however, prayed to God to take him higher. The comrades presented a giant portrait to the President in appreciation of his kindness and love for the union members.
