Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has restated his administration’s commitment to grassroots development, urging residents to continue supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) for sustained progress across the state.
The governor, represented by his Special Adviser on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, made the remarks at the flag-off of a 200-metre road project on Sanni Street, Amukoko, in Ifelodun Local Council Development Area (LCDA). He said the project would ease mobility, improve access to adjoining roads, and bring long-awaited relief to residents.
“This project duration will last six months, and the contractors are expected to deliver a quality road. It comes with solar-powered streetlights and a walkway,” Dr. Agbaje said on behalf of the governor. “We want the community to take full ownership, safeguard the project, and ensure no one tampers with the materials. This road marks a new phase in the development of Amukoko.”
The event drew a large turnout of residents, party leaders, and community stakeholders, underscoring the significance of the project.
APC leaders at the event, including Former Vice Chairman and Executive Secretary Hon Wahab Adigun, Igwe Yekinni Tajudeen of the G16 group and Omololu, urged stakeholders to encourage their children, relatives, and friends to register for Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in preparation for the next election.
Chairman APC in Ifelodun, Babalola Owegbe, commended both Governor Sanwo-Olu and Hon. Saad Lukman Olumoh for attracting development to the council area. “We appreciate Mr. Projects, the Governor of Lagos State, and Hon. Olumoh, who regularly engages us with new projects. Almost every week, he calls us for stakeholder meetings to unveil one initiative or another. Truly, Olumoh has brought meaningful development to this constituency,” Owegbe said.
Hon. Olumoh described the project as an “epoch-making occasion,” noting that Sanni Street had long been overdue for rehabilitation. He expressed gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, and APC National Leader and President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The lawmaker also used the occasion to reaffirm his pledge to empower 1,000 youths in his constituency with ₦1 million each, while presenting ₦100,000 grants to beneficiaries of recent vocational training programs. “We are committed to empowering our youths and ensuring they have opportunities to thrive,” Olumoh said.
One of the beneficiaries, Bolaji Rufiat Tanimola, praised the initiative and called on other leaders to emulate Olumoh’s efforts. “If we had more leaders like him, our community would truly become a model of development,” she said.
Speaking on behalf of the contractors JIBrown, the site engineer appealed for the community’s cooperation to enable smooth execution of the road project, which includes the construction of a 7.5-metre by 7.5-metre drainage system. He assured residents that the project would be implemented “with a human face.”
The Sanni Street road project is part of the Sanwo-Olu administration’s broader commitment to improving inner roads and infrastructure across Lagos, with the ultimate goal of easing mobility, promoting economic activity, and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
Other dignitaries include the two former Chairmanship aspirants, Dr Ralph Olaleye, Dr Lekan Akingbolu and the serving Council Chairman Hon OluFemi Okeowo who was represented by his Chief of Staff Mudashiru Abolajin, the serving Councilors and other Party Chieftains.
