Luck ran out on a group of boys that operate in mostly commercial buses by forcefully obtaining passengers cash and other valuables from them, at gun point; as they were arrested by the police recently. Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), arrested three suspects, all members of a one-chance gang, operating along Oshodi–Gbagada Expressway, Lagos. The suspects had abandoned their operational vehicle, a Suzuki mini bus popularly called ‘korope’ at Gbagada area of Oshodi-Oke along Gbagada–Oshodi Expressway, recently, when RRS operatives accosted them while trying to drop off a victim.
Investigation revealed that the suspects had earlier hijacked the operational vehicle at gunpoint at Ketu bus stop, in Lagos-Badagry Expressway, Ojo sometime in February and the incident was reported at Ijanikin Police Divisional Headquarters. The suspects, Wale Ajayi ‘m’ aged 24, Abideen Saka ‘m’ aged 26 and Oliseh Sunday aka Bobwhiskey ‘m’ aged 29, who were later arrested at their hideout following weeks of intensive investigation have since been arraigned and remanded.
Meanwhile, the Lagos Police Command recently arrested a welder, Aliu Tijani, who helped a suspected cultist, cut off his handcuffs after escaping from police custody. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed on Sunday that the suspected cultist, Wasiu Opeyemi, was earlier arrested in 2021, but escaped from police custody.
According to a tweet by the police spokesman, “Suspected cultist, Wasiu Opeyemi, escaped from police custody in August 2021 in handcuffs. Last week, he was re-arrested alongside Aliu Tijani, the welder; who cut off the handcuffs when he escaped the first time.”
He added that the two suspects have both been arraigned and are currently in remand.
