In a heartfelt commitment to cushion the current economic hardship for the people of Ifelodun LCDA, the Executive chairman Mayor Olufemi Akanbi Okeowo, recently distributed this month’s food palliative to 1000 residents, provided financial assistance of 50,000 naira each to 100 local petty traders and provided financial assistance to 500 unemployed youths, 500 aged and 200 young families in the community.
The program aims to cushion the economic hardship faced by vulnerable residents of the Council, providing them with a safety net to meet their basic needs.
The event took place inside the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Multipurpose Hall, where the Council Chairman expressed his gratitude to the community for their resilience and dedication amid economic challenges. He emphasized the importance of supporting local businesses and ensuring that no trader is left behind.
“The distribution of food items is part of our ongoing efforts to provide relief and support to our community members, he said. We recognize the struggles faced by our petty traders, many of whom are the backbone of our local economy. By providing these funds, we hope to empower them to grow their businesses and continue to thrive, Mayor Okeowo said.
The food palliative, which includes essential items such as rice, beans, semolina, wheat, and other items, was distributed to over 1000 families within the council area, ensuring that the vulnerable residents have access to nutritious food.
The program also features a continuous initiative for petty traders, whereby 100 deserving individuals received 50,000 naira each. This financial boost is designed to help them restock their businesses, invest in new products, and ultimately enhance their livelihoods.
“We believe that empowering our local traders will not only improve their standard of living but also stimulate the local economy. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to foster sustainable development in our community.” the Chairman said in his remarks
The event was attended by the erstwhile Deputy Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, who was also the immediate past Constituency Representatives at National Assembly, Hon. Kolawole Taiwo, the G17 Apex leaders, Vice Chairman, Hon. Adetoun Ojora and other Exco Members, the Legislators led by the Leader of the House, Hon. Fatima Atinuke Salaudeen, the CAC, the 26 Supervisors, the CDC, beneficiaries, and community members, all of whom expressed their appreciation for the Council’s commitment to their well-being.
The Ifelodun LCDA remains devoted to ensuring the welfare of its citizens and will continue to implement programs that provide immediate relief and long-term growth opportunities for the community, the Council Chairman said.
