The Joint Amuwo Odofin/Oriade Chieftaincy Committee, headed by HRM Oba Mobadenle Oyekan, the Onilado of Ilado & Inagbe Islands, has raised concerns over the activities of one Mr. Chibuike Azubike, who is allegedly parading himself as the “Obi of Lagos.”
According to the traditional leaders, Mr. Azubike has been soliciting funds under false pretenses. In a petition originating from his purported palace, he allegedly proposed to raise as much as ₦1.5 billion from unsuspecting members of the public for what he described as the “Palace of the Obi of Lagos.”
The council further clarified that Lagos State has no traditional title known as the “Obi of Lagos,” warning members of the public to be cautious and avoid dealing with individuals making such claims.
The committee stated that the matter has been formally reported to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, relevant state ministries, and security agencies. They urged swift intervention to protect citizens from falling victim to fraudulent schemes.
“The recognized traditional institutions in Lagos State are established under law and custom,” the committee stressed. “We will not tolerate any attempt to distort, impersonate, or exploit them for selfish gains.”
