Despite divergent views trailing his continued stay, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has maintained that Super Eagles Head Coach, Eric Chelle, will remain in charge of the senior national team.
The federation dismissed mounting speculation over the future of the Franco-Malian tactician, affirming that he remains committed to his role and has not indicated any intention to resign or walk away from the job.
In a statement issued to clarify the situation, the NFF reiterated its confidence in Chelle’s technical capacity and leadership, stressing that stability within the coaching crew is critical as the Super Eagles prepare for upcoming international assignments.
Football stakeholders and supporters have, however, expressed mixed reactions following the federation’s position.
While some fans backed the decision, citing the need for continuity, others applauded the coach’s tactical approach and impact on the squad. Anthony Ndinyenma argued that “you can’t change a winning team,” insisting Chelle should remain in charge, while Simeon Epiagolor said the coach has “brought something into the team” and deserves the opportunity to continue.
There were also calls for expanded technical focus, with Ejikeme Igwe urging the coach to commence early preparations for the home-based Super Eagles to deepen the national talent base.
Conversely, a section of critics questioned the decision, pointing to performance expectations and qualification benchmarks for major tournaments, insisting that contractual terms and results should guide any long-term retention.
Despite the differing opinions, the NFF insists Chelle retains its backing as the Super Eagles continue their rebuilding process, urging stakeholders to rally support for the team’s technical crew in pursuit of improved results on the continental and global stage.
