Members of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Seamen Branch, have expressed enthusiasm following the successful emergence of a new executive for the Shipping Federation Unit, describing the development as a victory for collective struggle and reform.
A stakeholder in the branch, Comrade Goodnews Sarah, described the outcome as a significant milestone, noting that the process reflected the aspirations of members who had long advocated for change within the unit.
She commended the leadership of the union, particularly the President-General of MWUN, Comrade Francis Bunu, for his role in ensuring stability and progress within the maritime sector. She also acknowledged the contribution of the President of the Seamen Branch, Comrade Pastor Sunday Avoseh, for his steadfast support and belief in the cause championed by members.
Special recognition was given to a former leader, popularly referred to as “Daddy Agoro,” a former Unit Chairman, District Chairman, and ex-Vice President General, for his intervention in ensuring due process and preventing what was described as an irregular selection process.
Comrade Sarah further appreciated all stakeholders and members who supported the emergence of Comrade Abayomi Uthman Martins as Chairman of the Shipping Federation Unit.
The newly elected executives are: Abayomi Uthman Martins (Chairman), Hamed Animasaun (Vice Chairman), Ayobami Sunday (Secretary), Victor Temuru (Assistant Secretary), Frank Ejide (Treasurer), and Patricia Ogadi (Special Female Representative).
Other members of the executive council include Segun Francis Ajisafe, Kingsley Udonwa, Felix Olehi Onyebuchi, Ndukwe Maxwell Ejima, and Onoriode, who will serve as ex officio members.
She urged members of the union to support the new leadership in steering the affairs of the unit, expressing optimism that the team would deliver on its mandate.
In a related development, Comrade Sarah also appreciated Engr. Adams, Chief Executive Officer of Adams Marine, for facilitating an employment opportunity for a member, Oluwatoyin Ajayi, who was recently deployed onboard a tanker vessel.
She called for continued unity among members, stressing the need for collective progress within the union.
