In furtherance of their pledge to ensure a new leadership emerges in the Ndi Igbo in the APC group Ajeromi local government, a caretaker committee executive recently emerged. Hon, Chief Nkem Igwe, former Vice Chairman of Ajeromi local government, announced the names of members of the committee which is headed by Evangelist Nwachukwu Ndubuisi Alex, and he will be assisted by Richard Okoye as vice chairman.
Other members of the committee include Juliana Akpugo-secretary and Robert Onuoha Treasurer, while Jessica Onuoha is the woman leader.
Others are Revd Eugene Ifembiri, PRO, Uju Ndupu, the youth leader, the financial secretary Chinyere Nwamma and Ego Christopher the provost.
Hon Nkem Igwe before announcing members of the committee pointed out that the move to appoint a new caretaker committee was not out of a witch hunt but to move the group forward. She explained that nobody was quarreling with anybody, but that the day’s meeting was in fulfillment of the leaders’ agreement at the last meeting where it was agreed that a caretaker committee executive should be set up to pilot the affairs of the group following the dissolution of the former excos at the previous meeting.
Hon Igwe made it clear that the position of members of the committee as announced is on an interim basis and the group will not condone being harassed by the police by any member of the executive when asked to step aside on account of poor performance.
Her words, “We believe these people will do as well as a group of brothers and sisters in the same political party, but the fact that we made somebody Chairman or Secretary does not make this meeting their meeting”
In her contribution, Hon Chief Mrs. Ifeoma Anene, Deputy Leader-Ajeromi/Ifelodun Legislative Council said, the constitution of this caretaker committee is the group’s unanimous belief in democratic tenets. The tenure of the past executives elapsed after four years and with the grace of an additional two years, which was partly caused by sundry issues. Including the last general election in April last year, a period that was more tasking for APC as a party, not to mention of election of executives of Ndi Igbo in APC.
”This thing happening today is not impromptu nor done in bad fate, but the leaders have called an exco meeting to peacefully dissolve and conduct a new election. It’s because our former leader was not loyal to our party, which caused this group to lose a lot, coupled with his unwillingness to conduct an election after a six-year tenure, this made it unacceptable to a lot of our members
Imagine two slots of Special Advisers for this group and the past chairman, Chief Uche Amagba didn’t deem it right to inform this Honourable House to shop for who will fill the positions but he only submitted his name for the position “, she explained.
She added that the house was able to do the right thing with the new appointments because Chief Uche Amagba in the past has served in a position as Special Adviser and it beats everybody’s imagination why he would not allow others to serve.
The same Uche Amagba, she said, is a state officer of this group even as he has been removed as chairman and it is based on all these that they want everybody to understand that nobody is quarreling with each other but every member of the group should be given a sense of belonging.
At this juncture, Chief Silas Ngozi Ogbuehi, a Special Adviser, at the instance of the group stood to thank the group for nominating him for the position. He also donated his March salary cheque of N25,000 to the interim Committee as a start-off fund.
Evangelist Ndubuisi, the new caretaker committee chairman praised Chief Ogbuehi for his gesture. He thanked the group for their trust in the committee which is an opportunity to steer the group’s affairs towards the right direction. He promised that he and the other members would not disappoint and promised that whatever was due to the group would be delivered to them. He assured that rather than take from the group’s slot, the committee will augment with their personal resources to ensure that everybody is happy.
Chief Nkem Igwe, again charged members to mobilize other Igbos in their midst for the group. She asked members who may have the intention of contesting for any position in the forthcoming local government election to endeavor to inform the group in good time to enable the group to sufficiently work for the person.
Other leaders in attendance were Chief CY Eze, and Chief Adizue Ezezue among other notable Igbo leaders.
