The Lagos Multi-Door Courthouse (LMDC) recently organised a series of sensitisation programmes for the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education as well as the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development.
The initiative is part of LMDC’s commitment to promoting awareness and adoption of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms across Lagos State Government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
Chief Executive Officer/Director of the LMDC, Mrs. Achere Cole, represented at the event by Mrs. Olubusola Ojo, an Assistant Director, Registrar, emphasised that the LMDC is a court-connected ADR centre providing mediation, arbitration, early neutral evaluation, restorative justice, and other dispute resolution services to help parties settle conflicts more efficiently.
She highlighted the numerous benefits of ADR, including cost-effectiveness, faster resolution times, and improved relationships between disputing parties.
According to her, ADR offers a flexible and less adversarial approach to resolving a wide range of cases, including commercial, employment, and community disputes.
Cole also noted that ADR can play a vital role in fostering harmonious working relationships among stakeholders, particularly within the local government sector.
In her remarks, Ms. Rosemary Ubajaka, Ikeja LMDC Administrator, spoke about the Lagos Settlement Week, the flagship programme of the LMDC designed to decongest court dockets and expand access to justice through ADR.
The Programme, she explained, provides free mediation services for cases across key sectors in the state, offering citizens a convenient platform to resolve disputes quickly and amicably, thereby reducing the burden on the courts and promoting social harmony.
