Finally, Justice Kekere-Ekun has been sworn in as the 23 Chief Justice of Nigeria by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja.
This is coming just a day after her predecessor Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, bowed out of office as the 22nd Chief Justice of Nigeria. Ariwoola retired upon attending the mandatory age of 70 years.
Kekere-Ekun took the oath of office and signed the oath register on Friday, pending her confirmation by the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly.
She succeeds Ariwoola, who took charge of the apex court following the resignation of his predecessor, Justice Tanko Muhammad. He was however confirmed by the Senate on September 21, 2022, as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria.
Justice Kekere-Ekun is to act as the CJN pending confirmation by the Senate.
