Increasing Support For Hon Okeowo As He Gets Ready For Second Term (1)

Hon Okeowo’s quest for a second tenure as the Chairman of Ifelodun LCDA looks secure based on his performance in the last four years. A lot of people in his constituency believe that he has had an impressive first tenure, which his political detractors cannot deny. His government can arguably boast of being the first local government in Lagos state abait Nigeria, to run a government that sustained monthly palliatives for her constituents for three years consecutively including nonpoliticians.

The Ifelodun Council Boss is truly progressive in his administrative style as he frequently reviews his performance and improves on where he has shortfalls. For instance, when he discovered that the palliatives were not making much impact on the people, he immediately increased his monthly palliative packages to residents.

According to him, the continuous increment is to enable his administration to make more impacts on the lives of Ifelodun residents.

150 people are selected from each ward, which is made up of 7 wards in Ifelodun; who benefits from the palliatives. In addition, 100 petty traders receive N50,000 each to support their businesses. The traders undergo thorough screening before they are picked to benefit from the palliative.

Other beneficiaries are: 500 aged people who get N10,000 each, 500 youths get N10,000 each, 250 young families got N10, 000 each, and 250 individuals with special ailments such as diabetes, and hypertension get free drugs.

On the political front, his government carries nonpoliticians, leaders, and members of different political groups along in the sharing of the dividends of democracy. Obviously, most of these constituents are enjoying the dividends especially with the massive infrastructural development going on in the nooks and crannies of the LCDA, including the empowerment programs and palliatives.

A former council chairman who has been critical of Okeowo’s government for her lack of infrastructural projects at the earliest stage of the administration is now singing the praises of Hon Okeowo because of his people-oriented projects. Another critic of the present government, a former supervisor has suddenly turned into an apostle of the current government because of the transformation he has witnessed.

Okeowo’s monumental capital projects have earned him a re- echoing loud applause from all fronts and beyond the Ifelodun Local Council Development Area including the secretary of the Governor’s Advisory Council who scored the Chairman’s performance  200% in one of his visits.

On the Economic and Security front, Hon Olufemi Okeowo embarked and commissioned street solar lights. At the commissioning of the solar-powered street lights, Okeowo said, the project would improve nightlife in the entire area and improve security considering the cost of fuel and diesel-powered generating sets. “These solar street lights truly improve economic activities.

On the social front, Okeowo’s first four years can also boast of a peaceful and friendly Ifelodun unlike what used to be the order, political fights, and other street fights. Not much of this has happened in the last couple of years. Not only did Okeowo’s security outfits help in this regard, but his disposition abhors open confrontation assisted by the lights-up projects that illuminate the neighborhood

Many people who initially were antagonistic to Olufemi  Okeowo’s government suddenly made a turnaround to support him. A few months to the end of his first tenure, various testimonies from people have attested to his tenure as not disappointing in the delivery of democratic dividends to the people of Ifelodun LCDA.

In recognition of his laudable projects in his first tenure, Christ the King Catholic Church, Ojo Road, not long ago honored him with the title of Baba Egbe, according to the church delegation led by Rev Fr. Peter Abatan, the parish priest.  ‘Baba Gbe’ title is a high honor for individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to the church and community at large. Okeowo according to them has demonstrated outstanding quality as a leader.

The Independent Movie  Makers Association Of Nigeria, IMMA, was not left out of the accolades as they also had pledged their support as a testament to his productive first tenure.

Amai Street Youth Parliament is another group that has pledged their loyalty due to Okeowo’s level playing administration. According to their leadership, Okeowo’s government is the first that recognize their youths and by reciprocation, they owe the government their support

Ahead of the LG elections, people have been donating campaign materials, which suggests that some people can even volunteer to buy the expression of interest form for the man who has done well, and every Football Coach worth his Onion knows that they do not change a winning team and APC knows better.

Miss Awotoye Aminat Oyindamola, a member of the foremost ladies group in Ajeromi-Ifelodun LG, ‘BAT-BAS LADIES’ equally had joined the league of supporters to donate campaign materials for the re-election campaign of Mayor Olufemi Akanbi Okeowo.

 Miss Aminat who visited the chairman in his office, presented campaign materials to the executive chairman to support his campaign ahead of the forthcoming local government elections.

According to her, “Mayor Olufemi Akanbi Okeowo is a man of his word, who has made promises and accomplished them. His administration has promoted good governance, hence the second term bid is not negotiable, we must all team up support to achieve this” Aminat noted.

Receiving the donations, the Chairman described Miss Aminat as a progressive youth who appreciates and encourages good governance. He also expressed his gratitude to Miss Oyindamola for her unwavering support and dedication.
