The Executive Chairman of Ifelodun Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Dr Mayor, Olufemi Akanbi Okeowo, has presented a proposed budget estimate of N16.03 billion for the 2026 fiscal year, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to accelerated grassroots development and improved service delivery.
Presenting the budget before the legislative council, the chairman highlighted key achievements recorded in previous years, including the completion of several road projects, the ultra-modern administrative complex housing key council offices, and major investments in healthcare, education, and social welfare.
He disclosed that the council introduced the Oke Health Insurance Scheme, in collaboration with the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), popularly known as “Ofe Lo Ba De,” which has enabled residents to access healthcare services free of charge. He also announced the completion of a state-of-the-art Primary Health Care Centre at Safejo Roundabout, scheduled for commissioning.
Tagged the “Budget of Continuous Development,” the 2026 proposal represents a 23 per cent increase over the 2025 budget, with 56.4 per cent allocated to capital expenditure and 43.6 per cent to recurrent spending. A total of N9.24 billion is earmarked for capital projects, with infrastructure development taking the largest share.
Other priority sectors include healthcare and environmental sustainability, education, social services, agriculture, women’s empowerment, information technology, and social protection programmes.
Responding, the Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Ilesanmi Elijah Oluwatosin, described the budget presentation as a critical step toward transparency and responsible governance, assuring that the House would subject the proposal to thorough legislative scrutiny.
Meanwhile, councillors expressed satisfaction with the administration’s performance, while the Founder and CEO of Ajegunle Business School, Alfred Konaughe, presented an award to the chairman in recognition of his infrastructural and entrepreneurial initiatives and to Hon. Ilesanmi Elijah, leader of the 6th Legislative House, for his advocacy at the grassroots.
