The enduring grassroots influence of Hon. Kolawole Musbau Taiwo was on full display on Thursday, January 15, 2026, as hundreds of his supporters converged on LA Primary School, Safejo, for the first LGA meeting of the year of the HKT Family and Friends group.
Despite leaving office as a constituency representative years back amid what supporters described as internal party challenges, Taiwo’s political structure remains vibrant, with chants of “We have decided to follow HKT, no going back” ringing across the venue as members reaffirmed their loyalty.
Visibly surprised by the turnout, Hon. Kolawole Taiwo expressed gratitude to the crowd, noting that their continued support, despite his absence from public office, was a powerful encouragement and testimony to their shared commitment and belief in the movement.
“I am deeply touched by your steadfastness and love,” Taiwo told the gathering. “This shows that what we built together is stronger than positions or titles.”
He used the occasion to urge members to take the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) registration exercise seriously, stressing that political participation begins with proper documentation. He reiterated the importance of obtaining voter cards, updating National Identification Numbers (NIN) and membership cards, declaring that possession of a voter card remains a basic requirement for active membership.
Taiwo also called on members to mobilise their children and wards who are 18 years and above to register with the party, noting that political organisation today is an investment in the future of the next generation.
“This registration is not just for me. It is for your children and for tomorrow,” he said, adding that long-standing members who have worked for the group would always be prioritised when opportunities arise.
Earlier, the Chairman of HKT Family and Friends, Mr. Ezekiel O. Taiwo, had also addressed the meeting, urging members to participate fully in both the APC party registration and general membership drive.
He cautioned against the registration of “ghost members,” stressing that only real, committed supporters should be enrolled. “During elections, it is the people we can see and call upon that make the difference,” he said.
The meeting marked a strong start to the year for the HKT political family and the APC Party, signaling renewed mobilisation ahead of forthcoming political activities in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area, one of the oldest members of the group remarked.
Reacting to questions about his continued membership in the group, he described himself as a founding member and dismissed speculation about his defection to another group.
“I am a foundation member of this group. Where would I go?” he said. “People do not build a house and abandon it to become tenants elsewhere. In this local government, there is no other group for me to go.”
