In its ongoing commitment to operational excellence and staff development, the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) recently convened its village meeting, bringing together key stakeholders within the public transport sector.
The event featured presentations and addresses from prominent figures, including Mrs. Tiamiyu Afusat Abike, General Manager of the Lagos State Drivers’ Institute (LASDRI), Engr. Asagbara Felix, representing the Director of the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS), Major Olatunbosun Olaniyi (Rtd) Corp Marshal, Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), Mr. Ozougwu Harrison, Deputy Commander of Narcotics (NDLEA), DRC Olaleye, representing the FRSC Sector Commander Lagos, and Mrs. Ibironke Omorhirhi from LAMATA.
Dr. Kemi Amure, Head of Bus Service at LAMATA, urged representatives from the various bus operating companies, particularly their ground staff, to prioritize customer-centricity and effective communication to ensure their continued success in the evolving transport landscape.
Dr. Amure further announced the commencement of operations for “Gbajaride,” a new bus operating company recently commissioned on May 3rd by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Gbajaride has added 33 new buses to the LAMATA-regulated fleet and will serve commuters along the following routes: Ijesha Garage to Costain, Post Office through Agege motor road to Empire, and Orile to Iponri, Iponri Estate Under Bridge to Ojuelegba, and Oshodi to TBS.
In a crucial session on safety and responsibility, officials from the NDLEA delivered a strong message to the drivers, emphasizing the dangers of substance abuse and outlining the proper procedures for incident reporting within the transport network.
The meeting demonstrated LAMATA’s holistic approach to public transportation, encompassing fleet expansion, customer service enhancement, and a strong focus on safety and regulatory compliance.
