A fast-rising gospel music minister, Kemi Aloto, has recounted her inspiring journey from a humble choir member in Ijora Badia, Lagos, to a widely sought-after minister of songs whose impact continues to grow across Nigeria’s gospel music landscape.
Popularly known as “Minister Kemi Aloto,” the singer began her musical ministry in 2012, with her first public ministration held at Ofa Grammar School in Kwara State. Since then, she says her journey has been sustained by divine grace and consistent spiritual growth.
“I started as a chorister in 2008 at Ijora Badia,” she recalled. “During a CAC programme, a pastor called me out and declared that I had a calling that would take me around the world through songs. At the time, I resisted because I did not want to become a pastor, but he insisted that it was beyond that and that the world would recognize the gift.”
According to her, the prophecy has remained a driving force in her ministry, as she continues to witness testimonies of healing and transformation through her songs.
Growing up, Aloto described herself as a music-loving child who drew early inspiration from renowned gospel artists such as Tope Alabi and Bola Aare. She recalled how, as a child of about 10, she would tell her mother of her dream to sing like the celebrated artists she saw on television.
Her passion led her to formally join the choir during her secondary school years, eventually blossoming into a ministry, Gospel Voice Global Ministry. While at Cardoso High School, she became a regular feature at school fellowships and assemblies, often leading worship sessions.
One of her most memorable early experiences came in 2013 when she was invited to minister at an event held at the palace of the Oba of Ijora. In a surprising twist, she found herself seated among guests alongside her teacher, who was initially stunned to discover that her student had been invited as a minister.
“She was surprised that I had the confidence to sit beside her as a guest, only to return to her class as a student the next day,” Aloto recounted with a smile.
Over the years, the singer has shared stages with notable gospel ministers, including Iya Bola Aare, Bisi Alawiye Aluko, and Daniel G Praise, experiences she described as both humbling and motivating. She also acknowledged the emergence of newer voices such as Alaseyori as part of the evolving gospel music scene.
Speaking on her ministry, Aloto emphasized the importance of spirituality over performance, noting that true ministration must be rooted in divine presence.
“If you are not connected to God, it becomes mere entertainment. Before every ministration, I pray for God’s presence to fill the atmosphere because that is where healing and deliverance come from,” she said.
Looking ahead, the gospel minister expressed optimism about expanding her reach beyond Nigeria in the next two to three years, with aspirations of becoming one of the most recognized gospel artists globally. She also expressed a desire to collaborate with leading gospel musicians, including Tope Alabi, Apekeola, and other prominent voices in the industry.
Her manager, in a supporting remark, described her growth as “encouraging and divinely orchestrated,” pointing to a recent concert hosted by the singer, which drew wide participation and continues to generate positive feedback.
The event featured notable ministers such as Daniel G Praise, Minister D Law, Adenike Grace Ayekan, and Solo P.
Among others are Diot Vocal and Winnie Brown, attracting attendees from diverse backgrounds.
The manager also acknowledged the critical support of spiritual mentors, particularly Pastor Toyin Omisore of RCCG Province 82 CSR, whom he described as “a father figure whose prayers and financial support have been instrumental to the ministry’s progress.”
Other clerics, including Pastor Mike Falokun and Pastor Baba Niwoyiola, were also commended for their contributions to the singer’s journey.
With her unwavering faith, growing influence, and a clear vision for global impact, Minister Kemi Aloto appears poised to become one of the notable voices shaping Nigeria’s contemporary gospel music scene.
