Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government in Lagos State on Wednesday showcased what officials described as practical evidence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s local government reforms, as five major capital projects were simultaneously flagged off within the council area.
The Executive Chairman, Hon. (Dr.) Olalekan Olu Akindipe presided over the inauguration and foundation-laying ceremonies held across strategic locations in the council, describing the development as a direct outcome of strengthened fiscal autonomy and administrative reforms championed by Bola Ahmed Tinubu under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The projects include the construction and rehabilitation of Babani Street, Oluwa Street, and Uweriro Street; the comprehensive upgrade of Akere Primary Health Centre (PHC); and the foundation laying of a 700-Seater ICT Hub.
Practical Proof of Reform at the Grassroots
Speaking at the ceremony, Akindipe said the simultaneous execution of five capital-intensive, community-focused projects marks a turning point in the history of the local government.
“For the first time in Ajeromi-Ifelodun, we are executing five strategic projects at once. This is not by accident. It is the result of reforms that have restored financial confidence, strengthened administrative capacity, and empowered local councils to function as true engines of development,” he said.
The Chairman noted that enhanced financial stability and clearer operational frameworks for local governments have created the enabling environment for councils to plan, fund, and implement impactful infrastructure projects without undue delays.
Infrastructure and Healthcare Boost
The three road projects are expected to improve connectivity within densely populated neighbourhoods, ease traffic flow, stimulate small-scale commerce, and enhance property values in areas that residents say have long required structured intervention.
Similarly, the upgrade of Akere Primary Health Centre is designed to expand access to quality primary healthcare services. Council officials said the facility will support improved maternal and child health outcomes, strengthen preventive care, and reinforce emergency response capacity at the community level.
Digital Empowerment Drive
The 700-Seater ICT Hub, whose foundation was laid during the ceremony, signals what the Chairman described as a “strategic pivot” toward digital inclusion and youth empowerment.
According to him, the centre will serve as a technology and skills acquisition hub, equipping young residents with digital competencies aligned with global workforce standards while positioning Ajeromi-Ifelodun as a technology-ready council.
Alignment Across Tiers of Government
Akindipe emphasized that the council’s achievements reflect coordinated governance, federal reform, state collaboration, and effective local execution.
He commended President Tinubu for policies aimed at strengthening local government administration nationwide, stating that renewed financial and operational clarity has emboldened councils to undertake bold developmental initiatives.
Community leaders, market association representatives, youth groups, and party stakeholders who attended the event described the multi-project flag-off as unprecedented in the council’s history.
The Chairman reiterated his administration’s commitment to transparent project execution, prudent resource management, and people-centred governance, stressing that tangible development remains the most credible measure of public leadership.
Observers say the developments in Ajeromi-Ifelodun may serve as a case study in how national reforms can translate into visible grassroots impact when effectively implemented.
