The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, mni has said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR has approved the creation of a new Health Maintenance Organization ( HMO) to be called, Federal Civil Service Health Maintenance Limited.
Dr. Kana emphasized the significance of this initiative, saying that the approval is a testament to the government’s recognition of the invaluable contributions of its workforce.
“This comprehensive coverage will not only safeguard the health of our Civil Servants but will also provide them with the peace of mind they deserve,” he said.
According to Dr. Kana, the Military and the Police Service Commission have their independent HMOs different from the NHIS which is responsible for all the servicemen and their dependents.
Listing the benefits of the new scheme, Dr. Kana said that it will improve healthcare delivery for Federal Civil servants.
He urged Civil Servants to embrace the new HMO. “This is the dawn of a new era. We want you to embrace this new scheme, own it, and work together for our better tomorrow,” he said.
This briefing, according to the Permanent Secretary was convened at the exclusive instance of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Folashade Yemi-Esan CFR, to brief Chairmen and Secretaries of Labour Unions and their affiliates in FCT in the first instance as part of sensitization. The briefing will serve as a platform to outline the key features and benefits of the newly approved health insurance scheme.
Furthermore, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Ms. Daju Kachallom mni, highlighted the transformative impact of this decision on the nation’s healthcare.
She said: “Access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right of every citizen, and this approval is a significant step towards ensuring equitable access for all civil servants.
She said that the scheme will cover all Civil Servants, including those in service and retired. She commended Dr. Kana for his contributions to the realization of the health scheme, which was conceived due to complaints about poor services from Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) and other aspects not captured in the National Health Insurance Scheme.
