The family of Ms. Comfort Chizoma Uwakwe, a resident of Oshodi, Lagos, and an indigene of Owalla Autonomous Community, Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State, has appealed for renewed public attention and clarity in investigations following her continued absence since October 25, 2025.
Nearly three months after she was reported missing, relatives and community leaders say there has been no conclusive account of her whereabouts, prompting concerns and calls for a more comprehensive investigation.
Last Known Movements
According to information provided by the family and the Owalla Town Development Union (OTDU), Lagos Branch, Ms. Uwakwe travelled to Epe, Lagos, on October 25, 2025, to visit an acquaintance.
Family members say she contacted a friend upon arrival to confirm she had reached her destination safely. Later that night, the same friend reportedly received a call from Ms. Uwakwe expressing distress, after which communication ceased. Family sources provided all details surrounding this account.
Ms. Uwakwe has not been seen or heard from since that date.
Police Report and Investigation
The family formally reported her as missing on October 27, 2025, at Makinde Police Station, Oshodi. Based on the information available at the time, the matter involved police formations in both Oshodi and Epe.
Investigations later led to the arrest of a man connected to Ms. Uwakwe’s last known visit. Police sources, as relayed to the family, indicated that he confirmed meeting her on the day she was last seen. The case was subsequently transferred to the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, for further investigation.
Conflicting Accounts and Outstanding Issues
According to the family and community representatives, police later informed them of an explanation involving a road traffic incident along the Epe axis, allegedly occurring after Ms. Uwakwe left her place of visit.
The family, however, has expressed reservations about aspects of this explanation and has requested forensic confirmation, including a DNA test and autopsy, to establish identity and clarify circumstances. They say they are willing to bear the cost of such procedures in the interest of certainty and closure.
Call for Due Process
In a statement, the Owalla Town Development Union, Lagos Branch, said its decision to draw public attention to the case was motivated by concern for due process and the emotional toll on the family.
The Union emphasised that it is not making any accusations, but is seeking clarity on unresolved aspects of the investigation and urging authorities to ensure that all relevant procedures are exhaustively followed.
Public Safety Appeal
Community leaders also used the opportunity to encourage increased awareness around personal safety, particularly among young women, stressing the importance of maintaining regular communication with trusted contacts and promptly reporting emergencies.
