The Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC) in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government, Alhaji Ismaila Sanni, has strongly criticized a recent online performance rating that placed the council chairman, Hon. Olamilekan Olu Akindipe, in 16th position among his peers, describing the assessment as unrealistic and grossly unfair.
Sanni said the rating failed to reflect the tangible achievements recorded by the Akindipe administration within a relatively short time in office, insisting that the council’s performance compares favourably with, and in some instances surpasses, that of local governments ranked ahead.
Speaking during a review of developments in the local government, the CDC chairman noted that Hon. Akindipe’s leadership has been marked by people-centred governance, infrastructural renewal, and responsive welfare interventions.
According to him, within his early months in office, the council chairman implemented consistent welfare programmes, including the distribution of quality palliatives and direct cash support to the aged and widows. He recalled that during the last Christmas season, over 500 verified beneficiaries received cash support alongside 10kg bags of rice, describing the intervention as unprecedented in the history of the council.
On infrastructure, Sanni said the administration marked its first 100 days with the procurement and distribution of five electricity transformers to underserved communities. He added that key roads such as Ashibejoye Street, Ago Hausa, and Taiwo Street have been fully rehabilitated, asphalted, and fitted with streetlights, while work is set to commence on Babani Street, Yaya Crescent, Oluwa Street, and other locations across the local government.
He further disclosed that the acquisition of a compact PSP truck for refuse evacuation by the council attracted commendation from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who reportedly urged other local governments to emulate Ajeromi’s approach to environmental management.
Politically, Sanni said Hon. Akindipe played a critical role in the ongoing APC e-registration exercise by addressing NIN-related challenges, approving the payment of registration costs, and facilitating the deployment of NIN service officers to the council secretariat, leading to record-breaking registration figures.
“Having interacted with my counterparts across several local governments and compared performances objectively, I can say without sentiment that placing Hon. Akindipe behind councils with lesser impact is a clear underrating,” Sanni said.
He urged media organisations and rating bodies to adopt more rigorous, fact-based evaluation criteria that reflect measurable impact and on-the-ground realities rather than surface-level assessments.
