Ajeromi-Ifelodun’s Hope in Honourable Akindipe Olamilekan

BY Moshood Oshunfurewa Adebola(HO2)

As Honourable Akindipe Olamilekan approaches his third month in office, his early actions have drawn commendation from many quarters. The social palliative measures he has introduced, targeting specific age groups and vulnerable residents, have been particularly well received across the Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area.

This proactive start is encouraging. Yet, it comes amid profound expectations from constituents who yearn for visible progress. From Alayabiagba, his birthplace, to the bustling commercial heart of Ajegunle, and through the communities of Aiyetoro, Dankaka, Tolu, and Temidire, there is a shared anticipation for meaningful and measurable development.

Pressing Expectations Across Sectors

The aspirations of the people are clear and far-reaching. They encompass critical areas such as improved healthcare delivery, infrastructural renewal, educational advancement, social empowerment, and efficient management of local markets. In addition, concerns around community security and the growing challenge of drug abuse call for decisive intervention.

Equally important is the need for greater government support for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and local industries—sectors that are vital to economic vibrancy and job creation within the LGA.

Fiscal Prudence as the Foundation for Progress

Meeting these diverse expectations will depend largely on sound financial management. This underscores the importance of prudent budgeting, transparency, and cost efficiency. While the recent palliative initiatives are commendable, they are likely to have drawn from the fiscal framework of the previous administration under Honourable Ayoola Adekunle Fatai.

Now, the focus must shift to the future—specifically, the preparation of the 2026 budget, which Honourable Akindipe will soon oversee. Crafting this budget demands a forward-looking vision and a capable advisory team—individuals with both technical expertise and the courage to engage in frank, solution-driven discussions. The team must be strategically positioned to attract investment, unlock new development opportunities, and ensure timely project execution.

Planning for a Growing Population

With Ajeromi-Ifelodun’s population expanding rapidly, effective planning is no longer optional—it is essential. The local government’s current monthly allocations, if managed with discipline and foresight, can provide a solid foundation for sustainable development. Strategic investments in infrastructure, human capital, and community welfare will be key to transforming public expectations into real outcomes.

Governance with Openness and Integrity

Ultimately, the success of Honourable Akindipe’s administration will rest not only on the quality of its policies but also on the inclusiveness of its governance style. Leadership that welcomes dialogue, values transparency, and embraces constructive criticism will foster public trust and collective ownership of progress.

The path forward must transcend short-term political considerations. By engaging genuine stakeholders from all sectors and prioritizing programs that deliver broad-based benefits, Honourable Akindipe has the opportunity to convert the promise of his early tenure into a lasting legacy of inclusive and transformative development.
