A major political realignment has unfolded in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State as the Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the council, Hon. Clifford U. Agugoesi, resigned from the party alongside all ward executives across its 11 wards, with the entire structure now aligning with the National Democratic Coalition (NDC).

Agugoesi, who led the party from Ward B, Festac Town, confirmed that his resignation takes immediate effect, following what he described as extensive consultations and a critical review of developments within the party.
In his resignation letter, he cited “shenanigans within and without the party at both the national and subnational levels,” which, according to him, led to the conclusion that the present ADC has deviated from the ideals of its founding fathers.
Clarifying speculation that his exit signaled a withdrawal from politics, Agugoesi dismissed the notion, stating that he remains actively engaged in the political space.
“I am not retiring from politics; I am joining the NDC,” he said, underscoring that his decision was driven by conviction rather than fatigue.
The outgoing chairman expressed gratitude to the party leadership, particularly under Hon. Engr. George Ashiru, whose mentorship and guidance he credited for helping to build the ADC structure in Amuwo-Odofin from scratch to a formidable grassroots network within just over a year.
He further acknowledged the sacrifices of party members, noting that the growth recorded in the local government was largely powered by personal commitment, time, and resources of members, as no financial support came from the party’s coffers.
Agugoesi also commended the team spirit within the party, which he described as exceptional despite “minor distractions from impostors and some inconsequential elements.”
His resignation has now triggered a coordinated exit of all ward executives in the 11 wards of the local government, effectively dismantling the ADC’s grassroots structure in Amuwo-Odofin.
Describing the development as the beginning of a “national tsunami,” Agugoesi hinted that similar defections could soon occur across other parts of the country.
Political observers say the mass movement to the NDC is poised to significantly reshape the political landscape in Amuwo-Odofin, with possible ripple effects across Lagos State and beyond.
