Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has shared a disturbing thought on the difference in the pattern of child upbringing while she was growing up and now.
The beautiful actress noted that back in her days as a child, if a child misbehaved, that child knew that either a cane or a belt was waiting for him/her. Children back then feared and respected their parents. However, in this generation, parents now negotiate everything with their children, even up to bathing
Jegede explains more:
“Growing up, if you misbehaved, you knew belt and cane were waiting. I am not saying it was always right, but there was fear of your parents. Now I look at this new generation, and I laugh. Parents are negotiating everything with children, even simple bath time.
“You will hear sit down, let us talk, why did you throw that plate. No more small discipline at all. These same children will grow up one day and become husbands and wives.
They are already used to getting their way. Nobody taught them how to bend or say sorry from the heart. I am watching and waiting to see the kind of marriages that will come. We must balance love with structure, so we do not raise adults who only know how to negotiate but not sacrifice”.
