The seven councillors of the Ifelodun Local Council Development Area, sitting under the 6th Legislative Assembly led by the Leader of the House, Hon. Ilesanmi Elijah Oluwatosin, have moved a motion for the illumination of identified dark spots and poorly lit streets across the LCDA. The motion, raised under matters of urgent public interest, was tabled during plenary on Thursday, November 20, 2025.
Moving the motion, Chief Whip of the House and Councillor representing Ward C, Hon. Adeola Wasiu Adebayo, said some streets across the LCDA had become security risks due to inadequate lighting.
According to him, “Dark streets attract bad activities, and it is not possible that we’ve not seen such incidents in our various wards as representatives. Some boys gather in these areas, and lighting them up will help curb such behaviour.”
Hon. Ilesanmi, while calling on members to nominate locations within their wards, encouraged full participation, noting that proper street lighting enhances safety and strengthens community life.
Deputy Leader of the House and Chairman, Committee on Budget and Appropriation, Hon. Jide Adekola Sarumi (Ward G), commended the Mayor, Hon. Olufemi Okeowo, for ongoing street-lighting efforts. He said the work done in Ward G had drastically reduced street fights and improved night-time visibility.
“Everyone knows the Mayor has transformed Ward G. The area looks very bright now unlike before,” he said, while nominating Agbamu Street for additional lighting.
Contributing, Hon. Prince Ajibola Ojora-Adejiyan (Ward B) praised the mayor’s commitment to lighting projects and recommended Evie Street, off Itire Road, for inclusion.
Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Adebayo Blessing Alaba (Ward E), said improved lighting would further showcase the council’s infrastructural achievements. She nominated Baba Sallah Street along Maiyegun Road for the project.

Ward A: Hon. Safiu Taoreed Aderemi – Adeyemi Lane off Aiyenero
Ward C: Hon. Adeola Wasiu Adebayo – Michael Ebahor Street
Ward F: Hon. Ilesanmi Elijah Oluwatosin(Leader of the House) – Tejumola Street
Hon. Ilesanmi reiterated that even wards without major dark spots still stand to benefit, noting that well-lit streets boost night-time economic activities, extend business hours, support street markets, and reduce crime rates.
At the close of deliberations, the Leader of the House invoked matters of urgent public importance and called for a motion to lower the Mace, enabling the House to receive petitioners from the Irepodun Mechanical and Technicians Association and respondents from the United Marble and Allied Products Association.
