… Legislative Arm Reaffirms Commitment to Order and Stakeholder Cooperation
The Legislative Arm of Ifelodun Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos under the Leadership of Hon Ilesanmi Elijah Oluwatosin has taken proactive steps to curb traffic disruptions and unauthorized road closures within the community.
At a special session held in the council chamber, the lawmakers invited the Financial Secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Lagos State Chapter, Mr. Ibrahim Yusuf, to address an incident involving the improper closure of a public road on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
The deliberation focused on maintaining order, promoting cooperation among stakeholders, and preventing future occurrences that inconvenience residents and disrupt vehicular movement.
During the sitting, the Deputy Leader of the House recalled a similar incident involving the Balogun of Safejo and Amukoko, who had earlier blocked a road for a social event without obtaining official clearance , an act described as a violation of council regulations. He clarified that the legislative engagement was not a witch-hunt but an opportunity to strengthen collaboration and uphold community discipline.
In his remarks, Mr. Yusuf thanked the lawmakers for their civility and due process, commending the council’s leadership for its commitment to dialogue and public order. He pledged continued cooperation between the NURTW and the council and promised to submit a formal apology over the incident.
The Chief Whip of the House, Hon Adeola Wasiu Adebayo noted that the matter had attracted attention at the Lagos State House of Assembly, underscoring its importance. He commended Mr. Yusuf for honoring the invitation despite his busy schedule, describing the gesture as a demonstration of respect for grassroots governance.
In his closing address, the Leader of the House, Hon. Ilesanmi Elijah Oluwatosin (JP), reaffirmed the council’s resolve to promote peaceful engagement, dialogue, and mutual respect among all stakeholders. He stressed that the legislative arm remains committed to ensuring that community development is pursued through lawful and collaborative means.
The session ended with a reaffirmation of the council’s dedication to peace, order, and the rule of law across Ifelodun LCDA.
