Jide Adekola Sarumi popularly called JAS is the son of a popular Ifelodun politician and the present Asst Financial Secretary of APC Ifelodun LCDA. He joined the Progressives as the Asst Publicity Secretary in Ward G in 2009.
Presently Sarumi is the Vice Chairman Revenue Committee in the Mayor Olufemi Akambi led Administration. He started politics as a young boy in the year 1996 during the NCPN, DPN, and UNCP era and was with the NCPN party which had the late M.O Fijabi as the party’s chairmanship candidate, while Hon Adebayo Adeeola Garba, former Ifelodun Council secretary ran as a councilor under the same party.
In 1998/99 during the dispensation of PDP, ANPP, JAS was in the ANPP party, and the same late M.O Fijabi was the chairmanship candidate of the party while Kekere-Ekun was the governorship candidate, the election was however won by the current President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Some years later JAS decamped to PDP and in the year 2001, the present Ifelodun serving chairman Mayor Olufemi Okeowo, came down to Ifelodun where he joined camp with Okeowo from that period till date.
Throwing more light on his political journey, JAS explained that in 2003, Mayor Okeowo contested for the membership of the House of Reps under the platform of PDP which he lost to the late Hon Segun Ogunbanjo, he also lost to the same candidate in 2007.
He explained further that in 2009, Mayor Okeowo joined the Progressives and they worked tirelessly for the party as committed and dedicated party members.
JAS in 2021 aspired as a councillorship aspirant of his party under Ward G and the ticket was given to Kazeem Sulaiman.
“This coming 2025 dispensation of the next local government election, I have decided for the love and service of my Ward to contest for the councillorship seat of Ward J (under the 20 local government arrangement) and Ward G under 57 local governments,” he revealed.
JAS said his inspiration is what his ward stands to gain under his councillorship. “To be frank, everyone is free to aspire to any position but everyone knows that some people are more capable as their impute would attract more democratic dividends for their constituents”.
“Any position especially political positions, like councillorship, is about lobbying for greater impacts and I believe that if I become the Councilor of the ward, I will attract more benefits for them”.
“It is about lobbying to attract more for your people. Everyone knows Sarunmi is a good mixer and that I will be capable of attracting more for the ward”.
Since the creation of Ifelodun LCDA, nothing has been strange to me regarding the activities at the council, I will reach out and doing just that to attract projects for my people will not be a hard thing for me “to be frank, my people will benefit more of the political largesse”.
