The Chairman, All Progressives Congress Party, Ajeromi Ifelodun chapter, Chief Sam Adeyemi, has hinted at how the party’s chairmanship candidate will emerge. He said that after the State electoral body has released the 2025 local government elections guidelines, the party’s screening committee will swing into action to pick candidates that will run for the different electoral positions.
Chief Adeyemi states,” On the means to select a candidate for the chairmanship position come 2025 electoral season, when the election period draws nearer, the electoral umpire will release guidelines. All interested aspirants will undergo party screening, and their educational qualifications and other documents will be screened. This process, including tax clearance, may reduce the number of contestants through disqualification. The successful aspirants would go ahead to purchase the non-refundable fee forms, after which they will contest for the primary election. The primary election would be ward by ward and the person that amassed the highest votes wins the party’s ticket”.
The chairman also cleared the air on the purported query issued to him by the Apex leader Prince Rabiu Adio Oluwa to steer clear of Ajegunle L’okan agitators, as it has to do with picking contestants for the chairmanship seat.
Adeyemi said, “Ajegunle l’okan is an agitation about who will rule Ajeromi local government as a Council Chairman and the APC leadership in Ajeromi do not want the agitation to destabilize APC in Ajeromi. Many aspirants from Ajegunle come out to contest the Chairmanship position and nobody is stopping them. They’re about four or five of them and at the end of the day, it’s only one person that will emerge and other aspirants from the other zones also have the right to aspire from such zones too”.
The ruling party Chieftain noted the priority for the party leadership for now should not be about who comes out for the seat of chairmanship as it’s not yet election time. Therefore nobody has the right to bar any individual from coming out to contest because the progressives have their way of resolving issues after the party has released the electoral guidelines, the screening, and the primary election. Adeyemi added that the apex leader Prince Oluwa can not give any ultimatum to him as a party chairman, rather he will only advise. He, as the chairman, must see to it that everybody’s interest is protected.
